Waxy coating on scalp after wash could be due to couple factors;
1: When hair secrets lots of sebum on its own due to uses of sulfate shampoos which cleanse the hair and strip it off its oils. This causes the sebum to work hard in order to moisturize the scalp and sometimes could cause over production of the sebum.
2: Sometimes, Using too much conditioner throughout our hair can lead to the hydrating ingredients in the product being left on the scalp, which traps oil and results in waxy coating on scalp.
3: In some cases, it could be due to a skin condition called seborrhea, which is commonly occurring in thin straight hair. This causes the sebaceous glands to produce excessive oil, resulting in an oily scalp and oily hair. For curly hair it could be due to hormonal imbalance or anything that disrupts the hormones.
Natural handmade shampoo bars have oils in them which could result to the fact that it won’t be enough to clear the wax if one has this type of skin conditions.
A clarifying shampoo that’s gently for natural hair would be more ideal for wash day instead.
