The typical dandruff treatment shampoos like Head and Shoulders uses a certain antimicrobial, anti-fungal and antibacterial chemical called zinc pyrithione(ZPT). It would kill microbes in the scalp and does get rid of dandruff which is “temporarily”. This chemical can be potentially toxic to a person’s reproductive organ, the reason why it’s banned in Europe.

What Causes Dandruff?

The particular fungus behind dandruff is “Malassezia”, in this situation, this type of fungus which is a part of our normal flora in the skin, has morphed overgrown.
Naturally, we have micro flora(healthy bacteria, yeast, fungus) on our scalp, skin and even inside of our body which helps keep unfriendly bacteria in check. But when there’s a disruption and imbalance in the scalp micro flora, it causes inflammation and an immune reaction. Antibiotics can cause this imbalance, killing the friendly bacteria that keeps unfriendly ones in check and allowing them to overgrow and cause problems.
And this shows that there’s also something going on from the inside especially with our gut health.

Natural Remedies For Dandruff:

✅The best way to tackle this from the inside is by regaining back your friendly bacteria by taking probiotics like sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, kombucha, etc and fix your diet.
✅And from the outside,
If you can, get the juice of kimchi (1 teaspoon), and mix with some water, like one part kimchi juice to 3 parts of water. After washing your hair, run it in your scalp all over, leave it for 15-20 minutes, then go back into the shower and wash it off.
Or
✅You can use 2 teaspoons of olive oil with half teaspoon of coconut oil, apply on scalp at night, wrap up your hair with your satin scarf or cap for my black Queens, and rinse off the next morning.
There are several other oils you can use, diluted oregano oil, diluted tea tree oil, diluted garlic oil, tallow oil.
